The Nicklin electorate office was officially opened this month by Former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

Minister Stirling Hinchliffe drove from Brisbane to attend.

Also in attendance were councillors David Law, Winston Johnston, Brian Stockwell, and Tom Wegener.

Just 79 votes separated incumbent Marty Hunt and challenger Robert Skelton at last year’s State Elections, handing Labor an historic win in the seat.

Mr Skelton’s win was the first time in 100 years Nambour has had a Labor member.

The win came after a 5.3 percent swing to Labor in Nicklin.

Labor insiders said it may have been a combination of older people in the area grateful for Labor’s handling of COVID 19 as well as a younger demographic moving to the area which helped  swing votes and pushed Labor across the line.
